The Margie Jordan Foundation
At the Margie Jordan Foundation, our mission is to honor the legacy of Margie Jordan, a devoted educator and passionate advocate for student success, by empowering and supporting young people in their pursuit of education and personal growth. As a non-profit organization founded by her eldest son CEO Bryan Tunstall, and guided by Margie's youngest son David Taylor and grand daughter Kristie-Ann Taylor, we are dedicated to making a lasting impact in the lives of students in Chicago, IL, and beyond.
Margie Jordan was a beacon of hope and inspiration throughout her career at Proviso East High School in Maywood, IL, New Hope Lutheran Elementary, and New Luther High School in Chicago, IL. She fought tirelessly to ensure that all students, regardless of their circumstances, had access to quality education and the support they needed to thrive.
In her memory, the Margie Jordan Foundation aims to provide educational scholarships and housing assistance to students who demonstrate potential and commitment, but face financial and personal challenges. Our organization believes that every individual deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential and that access to education and a stable living environment are critical to personal growth and success.
Through our continuous fundraising efforts, we strive to address the ever-present and growing needs of our community. We collaborate with partners, volunteers, and supporters to expand our reach, maximize our impact, and create lasting change.
Together, we carry on Margie Jordan's vision of a world where every student, regardless of their background, has the opportunity to excel and contribute to a brighter future for all.

Margie "Mom" Jordan was a remarkable woman who triumphed over adversity to make a lasting impact on the lives of those around her. Born in 1945 in the segregated Jim Crow south of Daphne, AL, she and her siblings worked the fields to support their family, knowing that education was the key to a better life. As a founding and devoted member of Concordia Lutheran Church in Montrose, Alabama, her faith played a central role in her life.
Despite the challenges she faced, Margie pursued a successful career in education and made history as the first African American woman in Illinois to qualify for school district management. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in education, two Masters degrees, and a Certificate 75. Her dedication to serving the church and students led her to become the founding principal of New Hope Lutheran School in Chicago, IL.
Margie was a loving and compassionate person who cherished her family and enjoyed teaching and cooking. Her commitment to helping others extended beyond the classroom, as she volunteered to help young pregnant girls who were no longer allowed in school keep up with their education. This act of kindness allowed many of them to graduate on time.
In 2002, Margie was diagnosed with Chronic Lymphatic Leukemia, but she remained strong and faithful throughout her battle with the disease. She was a beacon of positivity and a mother figure to all who knew her. Margie "Mom" Jordan passed away on May 20th, 2018, but her legacy of love, faith, and dedication to education continues to inspire those whose lives she touched.
